I got two fantastic emails from KCRW DJs that I just have to share. As you know, our hosts are in high demand outside of the station – from club residencies and private parties and premieres -- and sometimes these events lead to some incredible adventures. In the case of late night host Anthony Valadez (Sunday, 3-6am), he ended up spinning for a head-bobbing Stevie Wonder! He was deejaying at a birthday party for Laylah Hathoway (daughter of the late great Donny Hathoway) in Hollywood and in walks Stevie, as well as Sheila E (percussion // drummer for Prince).
Anthony emailed me excitedly this morning so I had to share his thoughts with the KCRW fans:
“Stevie always represents this energy of creativity and love. The guy can do no wrong. He was being escorted from the stage and bumped into someone and apologized to this man. The guy was so honored that Stevie bumped into him!”
Also, Dan Wilcox (Saturday, mid-3am) took over the turntables at the Vanity Fair Reception for Darren Aranofsky’s film “The Wrestler” on Monday, December 15. His set at the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study was quite different than his normal on air fare:
“They asked me to play 80's hair metal, since the movie “The Wrestler” has a lot of that stuff in it. I ended up really digging it. Bang your head!!!”
If you miss their live shows, remember you can always catch the latest shows by our DJs in the KCRW archives- Anthony and Dan
